Dr. Taregh Shaban
My Qualifications
I hold a Ph.D. from the University of Reading (UK), a Master of Arts in Psychoanalytic Studies from the University of London, and a Postgraduate Master's Level Clinical Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) from the esteemed Charley Waller Institute. My training portfolio is complemented by further specializations in schema therapy, mindfulness-based CBT, and compassion-focused therapy.
Areas of Expertise
My clinical focus is predominantly on adult mental health, providing evidence-based treatments for anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, and OCD. I also offer specialized support for individuals coping with PTSD.
Academic Contributions
Currently, I serve as an external academic supervisor for a student enrolled in the Clinical Psychology Doctorate programme at the University of Oxford. This is a role I've embraced before, having previously supervised another student who successfully graduated from the same course. I also teach a number of courses on a psychology undergraduate programme at a university in the Gulf.
Professional Experience
With over 10 years of experience working in the UK’s National Health Service, including 6 years at the Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, I've amassed valuable experience as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and supervisor. I have received mentorship and supervision from globally recognised experts in the field.
International Work and Leadership Roles
I spearheaded an initiative aimed at training Arab psychiatrists and clinical psychologists in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, in collaboration with the Oxford Cognitive Therapy Centre. Furthermore, I co-designed and led the CBT module of a diploma in psychosocial interventions, administered by the World Health Organisation, in a North African nation.
Continuing Education and Training
In addition to my client work and academic commitments, I regularly offer training workshops that have received high praise. These workshops are geared towards both practicing clinicians and trainees, focusing on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and its lower-intensity variants.
